Apple Invests Heavily in Mobile Gaming Ahead of WWDC

Apple is ramping up its focus on mobile gaming ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The company’s subscription-based Arcade service already offers access to various games, including indie titles like Stardew Valley. However, a recent acquisition and new app development suggest a more significant push into the market.

According to reports, Apple has acquired game studio RAC7, behind popular title Sneaky Sasquatch. This move joins other unexpected investors in mobile gaming, such as Netflix, which acquired several studios after launching its gaming platform in 2021. Cloud gaming is also on the rise, with Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming leading the way.

A new dedicated app for iOS 19 is reportedly in development, set to replace the existing Game Center app and integrate features like leaderboards, recommendations, and social sharing. The app may also integrate with iMessage or FaceTime for remote multiplayer gaming. With WWDC just around the corner, it seems Apple is serious about its mobile gaming ambitions.
