Apple iPhone 17 Pro Base Model Upgraded to 256GB Storage

Apple has been under fire for its storage configurations, with Macworld among those calling for upgrades. The latest complaint centers around the base storage of iPhones, with many demanding a minimum of 256GB. Setsuna Digital, a known reliable source for iPhone leaks, claims that Apple will finally meet this demand by starting the iPhone 17 Pro at 256GB in 2025.

This upgrade would boost the base configuration from the current 128GB seen on the iPhone 16 Pro. However, not everyone is pleased with the news, as Setsuna Digital revealed that the iPhone 17 Pro’s starting price will increase by $50, making it start at $1,049 or $1,149 depending on the storage option.

To mitigate the potential blow of higher prices, Apple may opt to shift its storage offerings. This tactic has been employed before, such as when the company introduced the iPhone 15 Pro Max with a 256GB base model, eliminating the lower price tier for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The resulting price increase was minimal, as it effectively eliminated one of the lower-priced options.

However, some analysts point out that the new $1,049 starting price for the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro could be seen as a price drop compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro. If Apple maintains the same entry-level price point without an additional $150 increase, this might indeed be the case.

In contrast, non-Pro models are expected to remain unchanged, with the standard iPhone 17 retaining its current price of $799 and the iPhone 17 Air potentially costing more, possibly between $949 and $999. The full specifications will be revealed during Apple’s anticipated iPhone 17 unveiling next month.
