Apple iPhone 17 Pro Models May Feature New Design Overhaul

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models are set for a significant design overhaul, with a rumored horizontal camera bar and potential changes to materials and features. The new design is expected to include a titanium chassis with visible CNC tool paths, suggesting freshly machined structural elements.

The camera bar will span the width of the device’s back, housing a triangular triple-camera setup on the left and flash, microphone, and LiDAR sensor on the right. Reports also suggest Apple may revert to using aluminum frames, moving away from titanium in previous models.

A half glass, half aluminum build is expected to increase durability and allow for wireless charging. The image shared by leaker Majin Bu appears to show CNC-machined aluminum or titanium chassis components, with large circular openings that could correspond to areas for internal components like the MagSafe coil or battery.

Additionally, rumors suggest Apple plans to test 7.5W reverse wireless charging for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, allowing it to provide power to other Apple devices like AirPods and Apple Watch. The body thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro Max may increase to fit a bigger battery.

The new design will extend to the iPhone 17 Air model, which is set to replace the Plus variant in Apple’s lineup. However, the base iPhone 17 is expected to maintain its current camera design language, further differentiating premium and standard offerings. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series next September.
