Apple has released critical security updates, including iOS 18.2, alongside its first major Apple Intelligence features. The update includes fixes for important flaws in the iPhone Kernel and WebKit, as well as patches for vulnerabilities that could allow attackers to execute code on devices.
iOS 18.2 is also notable for patching a previously undisclosed Passwords flaw, CVE-2024-54492, which allowed an attacker in a privileged network position to alter network traffic using unencrypted HTTP instead of HTTPS. Researchers at Mysk reported the issue and highlighted its potential risks.
Besides security updates, iOS 18.2 includes new features, such as integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, now available through Siri. Apple has made the update available for iPhone XS and later models, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, and other compatible devices.
Users are advised to upgrade to iOS 18.2 immediately to ensure security and take advantage of new features. The update is available in Settings > General > Software Update.
