Apple Joins Google’s Antitrust Trial, Seeking Billion-Dollar Payments

Apple has joined forces with Google in a US antitrust trial, seeking to defend billions of dollars in revenue-sharing agreements. The iPhone maker, which does not plan to build its own search engine, wants to call witnesses to testify at the April trial. Prosecutors will aim to show that Google must take measures such as selling its Chrome web browser and Android operating system to restore competition in online search.

Google has proposed loosening its default agreements with browser developers, mobile-device manufacturers, and wireless carriers, but not ending its revenue-sharing deals. The landmark case could reshape how users find online information. Apple received an estimated $20 billion from its agreement with Google in 2022 alone.
