Apple has launched a new holistic health study in its Research app, aiming to understand how technology can improve physical and mental wellbeing. The study, conducted in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, explores relationships between various areas of health and leverages data from iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods.
The study builds on learnings from previous research studies, including the Apple Women’s Health Study and the Apple Heart and Movement Study. With more than 350,000 participants across the US, it aims to understand how data from technology can be used to predict, detect, monitor, and manage changes in health.
Researchers will explore connections across different areas of health, including activity, aging, cardiovascular health, mental health, and sleep. The study is designed to identify important insights for future product development and offer a more proactive approach to health.
Participants who live in the US, meet minimum age requirements, and complete an informed consent process can enroll in the study through the Research app. Participation is voluntary, and participants choose which data types they’d like to share with researchers. Apple does not have access to identifying information.
The study is available in version 6.0 of the Research app on iPhone models compatible with iOS 16 or later.
