Apple Launches Nation-Wide Health Study Using Wearables and Devices

Apple has launched a wide-ranging health study that allows US participants to contribute data from their iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. The study aims to gather insights on various aspects of health and disease, including activity, aging, cardiovascular health, and mental well-being. By analyzing the data, Apple hopes to inform future product development and explore how consumer tech can impact healthcare.

The study’s goal is to identify changes in a person’s health that can signal potential issues earlier on. For instance, early detection of hearing health problems could reduce the risk of cognitive decline. This aligns with Apple’s previous research initiatives, which have focused on areas such as hearing, women’s health, mobility, and heart health.

The study’s findings will be made available in a few years’ time, although participants can opt-out at any point. Data collected during the study is anonymized to protect participant confidentiality. Those interested in participating can sign up through Apple’s Research app, with participation voluntary and flexible.
