Apple is reportedly set to upgrade its entry-level 11-inch iPad with a more powerful A18 chip, which could add support for Apple Intelligence features. The current model uses an A16 chip and has 6GB of RAM, while the new version would need at least 8GB of RAM to work with Apple Intelligence.
The A18 chip, introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro a few years ago, includes a 16-core Neural Engine designed for AI-specific features and apps. This upgrade could improve performance and make the iPad more competitive in the budget tablet market.
Apple’s focus on Apple Intelligence is driving this decision, as CEO Tim Cook has emphasized the importance of AI in the company’s future plans. The leak comes from an accidental release of code that referenced the A18 chip, which was previously reported for an upgraded iPad mini with an A19 Pro chip.
While the exact timing is uncertain, the new iPad model isn’t expected until at least 2026. However, Apple fans can expect to see new iPhone and Apple Watch models soon, with announcements planned for September.
