Apple M4 Ultra Could Outperform Nvidia RTX 4090

New benchmarks suggest the Apple M4 Ultra chip could surpass the performance of Nvidia’s powerful RTX 4090 GPU. If accurate, this would be a significant boost for Apple’s position in the gaming market.

The new benchmark results come from Yadim Yuryev, who expects the M4 Ultra to score around 330,000 on Geekbench 6 using the OpenCL API. This exceeds the RTX 4090’s current score of 317,379. The M4 Max chip currently scores around 192,812.

Yuryev believes that if the M4 Ultra doubles the number of GPU cores in the M4 Max, it could achieve this high score. The estimated performance increase is around 78% for the M4 Pro to M4 Max transition and 70% for the M4 Max to M4 Ultra upgrade.

This would put the M4 Ultra above Nvidia’s flagship GPU if accurate. However, it’s essential to note that this is an early benchmark test and not yet confirmed by Apple. The score may vary once the actual hardware is released.

The news is a significant development for Apple’s gaming ambitions, which have been expanding with new game releases like Cyberpunk 2077 on Mac. This could finally allow Macs to compete with top gaming laptops and PCs.

While some might be surprised by this performance claim, it’s not entirely unexpected given the demanding system requirements of games like Cyberpunk 2077. The upcoming M4 Ultra chip seems to pack a punch, making Apple fans excited about its potential in the gaming market.
