Apple May Open Vision Pro Market to Third-Party Retailers

Apple has quietly released the “Vision Pro Demo Fit” app, which suggests that the company may soon allow third-party retailers to sell its Vision Pro headset. The app, discovered in the App Store Preview by Aaron Perris of 9to5Mac, offers features for matching customers with their required sizing and accessories.

Currently, the Vision Pro is only available for purchase directly from Apple, requiring customers to use an iPhone or iPad with Face ID to determine a “precise fit” when ordering. The new app provides similar services, including facial recognition for sizing and tracking demo sessions, prescription, and non-prescription lenses options.

If implemented, this change could allow Apple to maintain its $3,500 price tag while allowing other retailers to offer discounts if they choose. In 2024, Apple scaled back Vision Pro production due to lower-than-anticipated demand, leading some speculation about a potential shift in focus towards a more affordable headset with broader market appeal.
