Apple is revamping its CarPlay system with iOS 26, aiming to improve the overall user experience for millions of iPhone users on-the-go. The update will introduce new features such as widgets that provide quick access to information like flight statuses, calendar reminders, and smart home controls.
CarPlay will now also include vehicle controls, allowing drivers to adjust radio settings, climate control, and other vehicle functions directly from the infotainment system. This integration aims to enhance safety and convenience for drivers while driving.
A compact design feature has been added to help users navigate phone calls without distraction, ensuring they can view upcoming directions alongside received messages. Apple also showcased new emoji reaction capabilities during the WWDC keynote, allowing users to respond to messages without leaving their driving route.
Apple’s CarPlay Ultra initiative provides customized features for automakers to incorporate, offering drivers a personalized experience with real-time content and instrument cluster gauges that mirror the vehicle’s design aesthetic.
