Apple Pledges $600 Billion in US Manufacturing Investment

Apple CEO Tim Cook will join President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday for a meeting where the company plans to announce an update to its US manufacturing investment. The iPhone maker has increased its US investment from $500 billion to $600 billion over the next four years.

The announcement comes as Apple faces increased costs due to tariffs imposed by President Trump, primarily related to China. Cook stated that “the vast majority” of Apple’s products will be subject to new tariffs under a Section 232 investigation.

Apple is also launching a new manufacturing effort called the American Manufacturing Program. The company has seen its shares rise 5% during trading on Wednesday following the announcement.
