Apple Prepares MacBook Air Updates with M4 Chips in March

Apple is set to upgrade its MacBook Air line with faster M4 chips in March, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The update will bring the 13-inch and 15-inch models up to speed, completing the transition from older processors.

The upcoming refresh comes as Apple prepares its marketing, sales, and retail teams for the launch, clearing out retail stock of the laptops in anticipation of new inventory. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are expected to debut at the same time, mirroring last year’s release strategy.

The new MacBook Airs will share similar specs with low-end MacBook Pros, featuring fewer ports and no cooling fan to maintain their slim design. However, they will retain some upgrades, including support for connecting two external displays with the lid open. This feature was previously exclusive to higher-end MacBook Pros.

Only a few Mac models remain without M4 chips, including the Mac Studio (due between March and June) and the Mac Pro (anticipated for release in the fall).
