Apple has broken its previous records for iPhone upgrades during its fiscal first quarter, with CEO Tim Cook attributing this surge to the expansion of Apple Intelligence, a suite of artificial intelligence tools available on newer iPhone models. The milestone comes as sales of the iPhone 16 lineup, which launched in September, outpace those of the iPhone 15.
Key to the success is Apple’s AI-powered features, which are proving attractive to customers. The availability of these features varies by market, with some seeing stronger sales of the iPhone 16 compared to others. China, however, remains a challenge due to regulatory hurdles, resulting in an 11% year-over-year decline in Apple’s revenue.
Despite this, Cook is optimistic about the future potential of Apple Intelligence, expecting it to “go mainstream” as its user base grows. The company has announced plans to expand language support and unveil new AI features, including a more capable Siri. As iPhone 15 and 16 users become accustomed to these features, Cook notes that customers often find themselves unable to imagine life without them once they start using them.
