Apple’s popular MacBook Air has received a significant upgrade for 2025, making it one of the best consumer laptops on the market. The new laptop starts at £999 (€1,199/$999/A$1,699), which is a £100 price cut from last year’s model.
The most noticeable change is the Apple M4 chip, which provides faster performance and makes the laptop essentially as fast as the MacBook Pro line. The M4 chip also makes the Air silent and fanless, keeping it cool during prolonged periods of use.
Another significant upgrade is the 12-megapixel Centre Stage webcam, which offers automatic panning and scanning features, similar to those found on the MacBook Pro. The laptop’s 13.6in LCD screen remains crisp and good, although limited to 60Hz, unlike some rivals.
The Air also boasts an excellent keyboard, Touch ID fingerprint reader, and generous trackpad. However, the only two USB-C ports may be a drawback for some users, as they do not have a USB-A or SD card slot.
In terms of specifications, the MacBook Air starts at 16GB of RAM and comes in various storage options, including 256GB, 512GB, and 2TB SSDs. The laptop also runs macOS 15 Sequoia software and features an upgraded battery that can last more than 10 hours on a single charge.
The MacBook Air is made with 55% recycled materials, making it a more environmentally friendly option compared to some competitors. Apple offers trade-in and free recycling schemes for non-Apple products.
Overall, the 2025 MacBook Air is a great value for its price, offering powerful performance, long battery life, and excellent features like the Centre Stage webcam and Touch ID. While it may not have all the bells and whistles, it remains one of the best consumer laptops on the market.
