Apple Refreshes Mac Studio with M3 Ultra Processor

Apple has released a refreshed Mac Studio lineup, boasting upgraded performance with its new M3 Ultra processor. Unlike the base model Mac Studio, which features the Arm-compatible M4 chip, the top-specced model now comes equipped with the M3 Ultra.

The M3 Ultra is essentially two M3 Max processors stitched together using TSMC’s advanced packaging tech, resulting in a single logical chip with 184 billion transistors. This translates to improved performance, including a 50% increase over the M2 Ultra and an 80% increase over the original M1 Ultra.

The GPU has also been upgraded from 76 cores to 80 this generation, offering significant improvements in graphics workloads. Additionally, the M3 Ultra features a 32-core Neural Engine for accelerated AI tasks.

However, the upgraded Mac Studio model comes at a hefty price tag, with an additional $5,500 for the 512GB of unified memory option, bringing the total to $9,499. For comparison, the base model Mac Studio costs $4,999.

Meanwhile, Apple’s MacBook Air has also received an M4 processor upgrade, offering improved performance and support for multiple monitors. The refreshed lineup is now available for preorder with prices starting at $999 for the 13-inch model and $1,199 for the 15-inch model.
