Apple has released a long-awaited update for its over-ear headphones, AirPods Max, bringing lossless audio and ultra-low latency capabilities to users. The update, firmware version 7E101, had been delayed several times before being rolled out on Wednesday afternoon.
The new software arrives alongside a USB-C to 3.5mm cable, which can be used with the AirPods Max regardless of the firmware version. This cable allows users to connect their headphones to devices with traditional headphone jacks, providing a convenient and affordable solution.
However, Apple still needs to simplify its update process for AirPods. Unlike other earbud manufacturers, there is currently no way to manually trigger an update from within the AirPods settings in iOS. A simple “update now” button would be a welcome improvement.
The latest firmware update brings much-needed features to the AirPods Max, which had fallen behind its competitors in recent years. With this new software, users can enjoy improved audio quality and responsiveness.
