Apple is planning to make its budget iPhone series an annual series, with the iPhone 16e expected to launch in May next year. The device’s success has led to a trial production stage, and now the company is preparing for its successor, the iPhone 17e, which is slated to launch in late May 2026.
According to Chinese leaker Fixed Focus Digital, the iPhone 17e will face direct competition from mid-range devices launched by rivals such as Google’s Pixel 9a and Samsung. However, the real competition comes from Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Redmi, and Vivo.
The leak also suggests that Apple is concerned about its falling sales in China, with a recent report stating that the company’s market share fell by 9 percent. This has led to speculation that the iPhone 17e will be a more affordable alternative to the flagship models.
In comparison to the iPhone 16e, which launched earlier this year, the upcoming iPhone 17e is expected to offer significant improvements, including a new project code and the introduction of an “e model”. The device is likely to feature a smaller form factor, making it more appealing to budget-conscious consumers.
