Apple has reportedly settled on the name “iPhone 17 Air” for its upcoming skinny iPhone release this fall. According to Bloomberg, the phone will be a testing ground for future technologies, including foldable displays and in-house cell modems. The device is expected to feature a significantly thinner design, around 2mm less than current iPhones.
The thinness of the new device is not just aesthetically pleasing; it’s also a crucial aspect of Apple’s plans for future products. It will help pave the way for foldable iPads and iPhones, while also serving as a proving ground for its in-house cell modem technology. The iPhone 17 Air may also be one of the first devices to debut Apple-designed Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chips.
Rumored specifications include a 6.6-inch ProMotion OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a single 48-megapixel camera lens on the back, and a 24-megapixel selfie camera. The device is also expected to feature Apple’s A19 chip and up to 8GB of RAM for running AI-powered features.
