Apple Shakes Up Siri Leadership Amid AI Failures

Apple is overhauling its leadership on Siri’s AI features after struggles with basic queries and growing competition from rival AI systems. According to Bloomberg, CEO Tim Cook has appointed Mike Rockwell, the head of Vision Products Group, to lead the Siri team.

Cook has lost confidence in John Giannandrea, who oversaw AI development for Siri, citing concerns about product development execution. As a result, Giannandrea will step down from his role. Rockwell will report to software chief Craig Federighi and oversee the Vision Products Group, now led by Paul Meade.

Siri’s struggles with basic queries have forced Apple to integrate third-party AI services like ChatGPT into its software to stay competitive. Recent tests showed Siri users’ frustration with its inability to answer simple questions. The company has also delayed the rollout of a more personalized version of Siri until next year.
