Apple To Bring Automatic Email Categorization to Macs and iPads

Apple is set to introduce automatic email categorization in its Mail app on Macs and iPads, according to a report from Bloomberg. The feature will arrive with upcoming updates to macOS 15.4 and possibly iPadOS 18.4, both scheduled for April.

The functionality works similarly to Google’s server-side Gmail sorting, which debuted in May 2013. On iOS devices, Apple’s Mail app groups emails into categories like “Primary,” “Transactions,” “Updates,” and “Promotions.” Users can move emails manually between categories, but cannot create new ones or alter the sorting logic.

The feature aims to simplify email management by automatically categorizing incoming emails, eliminating the need to check multiple inboxes. While some users prefer a single scroll of messages, others rely on manual categorization for added accuracy. With automatic categorization, Apple’s Mail app may offer an alternative solution for those seeking to streamline their email workflow.
