Apple plans to integrate custom modems into various devices, starting with iPhones and iPads, while also incorporating them into Macs and future versions of the Vision Pro, according to a report from Bloomberg. The company expects to launch its second-generation modem in 2026.
Macs with cellular connectivity are expected to arrive after 2026, as Apple phases out Qualcomm’s modems over time. Rumors suggest that custom modems will debut in entry-level iPads and the iPhone SE next year. High-end iPhones and iPads will also receive the upgraded modems within three years.
Additionally, Bloomberg reports that Apple may integrate its 5G chip into augmented reality glasses, which are still considered “years away” from release.
