Apple is reportedly in talks with Google to use its Gemini chatbot technology to enhance the iOS assistant Siri. The potential partnership comes as Apple explores external partnerships to power a customized Large Language Model (LLM) for its AI-enhanced virtual assistant.
According to insiders, Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. has been testing a custom model that can run on Apple’s servers. This integration would be similar to previous deals between Apple and ChatGPT. The partnership may signal an end to the AI “bubble” as other Big Tech companies scale back their investments in artificial intelligence.
Apple was previously exploring its own internal LLM, dubbed the “Linwood” project, but it appears that a partnership with Google’s Gemini could be the way forward. The Siri upgrade is slated for a potential 2026 release and would further boost Apple’s AI capabilities. However, neither Apple nor Google has confirmed the partnership.
