Apple is set to release iOS 18.3 in early January, bringing several new features and improvements to the iPhone software. While Apple Intelligence was supposed to be a major focus of this update, it seems that the company has put some of its AI plans on hold.
Instead, iOS 18.3 will address some technical issues with notification summaries generated by Apple Intelligence. The feature will be suspended in iOS 18.3 due to accuracy problems and mistakes reported by news organizations. Users can still disable notifications for specific apps from the lock screen.
Other new features include improved camera control, allowing users to rename the exposure lock toggle to “Lock Focus and Exposure”. When editing PDFs, Apple will now warn users that cropped areas are not removed from the file.
Messaging also gets a boost with the addition of personalized emojis. Additionally, Messages will add a Genmoji entry to the + button, making it easier for users to create their own custom emojis.
As for the release date, Apple typically releases software updates on Mondays or Tuesdays. With this month being a likely candidate for the update, users can expect either Monday, January 27 or Tuesday, January 28.
