Apple has announced that it will stop selling the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone SE in the European Union by December 28. The devices will be removed from online and offline stores, but authorized retailers can continue to sell them until their inventory runs out.
The move comes due to EU regulations requiring new smartphones with wired charging to use USB-C. The iPhone 14 series and iPhone SE do not meet this requirement as they still use the Lightning port. Apple will also stop selling other products featuring the Lightning port, including the Magic Keyboard without Touch ID.
Notably, the UK’s departure from the EU in 2020 does not apply to Northern Ireland, which means these products will be removed from the region even if it remains part of the UK. The iPhone SE (2022) is set to be replaced by a newer model next year, making this decision less significant.
The news may come as a surprise, as Apple typically updates its product lineup in September. However, the company has decided to accelerate the removal of older models to comply with EU regulations and modernize its products.
