Apple to Update MacBook Air Models with M4 Chip by Early 2025

Apple is expected to announce updated MacBook Air models with the new M4 chip, a 10-core CPU and GPU, in early 2025. This will be one of the first product announcements of the year. The new models are likely to feature improved performance, longer battery life, and enhanced camera capabilities.

Rumored features include an upgraded 12-megapixel camera with support for Center Stage, which automatically keeps users centered on video, as well as Desk View, which shows an overhead view of a user’s desk. The new MacBook Air models will also likely feature three Thunderbolt 4 ports, supporting up to two external displays when the lid is open.

The M4 chip has already been shown to be faster than the M3 chip in terms of multi-core CPU performance and offers improved power efficiency. This should result in longer battery life for the new MacBook Air models. Apple recently increased the minimum RAM from 8GB to 16GB, so expect this configuration in base models.

The timing of the announcement is unclear, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that Apple will announce the new MacBook Air models earlier than some other devices rumored to launch in spring 2025.
