Apple to Use Custom Wi-Fi Chip in All iPhone 17 Models

Apple will adopt its own custom-designed Wi-Fi chip in all upcoming iPhone 17 models, according to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The move is expected to enhance connectivity across Apple devices and reduce costs.

Currently, the company’s iPhones rely on a combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip supplied by Broadcom. However, Kuo predicts that nearly all Apple products will feature an in-house Wi-Fi chip within three years.

The iPhone 17 models are set to support Wi-Fi 7, a specification that allows for simultaneous use of the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands with compatible routers. This could lead to faster data transfer speeds, reduced latency, and improved connection stability.

Wi-Fi 7 is claimed to achieve peak speeds exceeding 40 Gbps, making it up to four times faster than Wi-Fi 6E. The integration of Apple’s Wi-Fi chip with its C1 modem chip is also expected, aiming to create a more energy-efficient wireless setup that reduces battery consumption.
