Apple TV+, the streaming service launched by Apple in 2019, is facing financial struggles, losing more than $1 billion annually, according to The Information. Despite this, its subscriber count has reached around 45 million, citing two anonymous sources.
The report reveals that Apple spent over $5 billion on content since its debut but cut the budget by $500 million last year, reportedly in response to disappointing performance of big-budget films like Argylle, which cost $200 million. This move was allegedly made after Apple CEO Tim Cook questioned the effectiveness of such large investments.
The decision comes as Netflix prepares to spend $18 billion on content in 2025, with over 301 million subscribers. The financial struggles of Apple TV+ have drawn attention from analysts and industry experts, who are watching its performance closely.
