Apple has confirmed that it’s testing its second-generation C2 modem, a key component of future iPhone models. The development comes as no surprise, given the company’s practice of developing new chip technology several years in advance of actual releases.
According to a reliable leaker, the C4020 identifier within Apple suggests that the C2 modem already exists and is being tested. While details are scarce, the upgrade promises faster and more reliable 5G connectivity, as well as improved power efficiency compared to its predecessor, the C1 modem.
Apple has publicly stated that the new modem will be a significant improvement over the current model, with some speculating it could even surpass Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X71 modem in terms of speed. The company’s chipmaking chief, Johny Srouji, described the C1 modem as just the “start” before the arrival of the C2 modem.
The development marks another step forward for Apple’s 5G capabilities and is expected to provide users with better connectivity options in future iPhones. As the technology continues to evolve, fans can look forward to improved performance and enhanced battery life in their devices.
