Apple is expanding its Apple News+ subscription service with a new food section, featuring tens of thousands of recipes, restaurant reviews, and healthy eating stories. The new Apple News+ Food section will be available on iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 in April, in partnership with popular publishers like Allrecipes, Bon Appétit, and Serious Eats.
The new service includes a robust recipe search function, allowing users to browse by ingredient, cooking time, simplicity, and cuisine type. When selecting a recipe, users can check off which ingredients they have at home and save recipes for later or offline access.
However, some industry observers are drawing comparisons to The New York Times, which has had success bundling its extensive library of recipes within its larger subscription bundle. Apple has taken steps in recent years to enhance News+ with features like a sports section, crossword puzzles, and games, but the company’s core reporting and recipes remain separate from those of The Times.
The launch marks another effort by Apple to integrate its services into a cohesive content offering, building on its existing efforts to create a more comprehensive and user-friendly experience for users.
