Apple Unveils Heart Rate Monitoring Earbuds with Powerbeats Pro 2

Apple’s Beats brand has introduced its Powerbeats Pro 2 earbuds, featuring built-in heart rate monitoring sensors for the first time. The buds will go on sale on February 13 for $249 and are expected to drive revenue in Apple’s wearables segment.

The new earbuds boast improved audio capabilities and battery life compared to their predecessors. They also come with features like active noise canceling, transparency listening options, and a more comfortable design that’s 20% lighter.

The Powerbeats Pro 2’s biggest selling point is its built-in heart rate sensors, which use LED optical sensors to measure heart rate and send the information to fitness apps. The monitors will be compatible with Apple Health but not Apple Fitness+ at launch.

Other notable features include Personalized Spatial Audio for iPhone users, high-quality lossless audio, and compatibility with both iOS and Android devices. The earbuds also have improved battery life, with up to 10 hours of listening time on a single charge, and are sweat- and water-resistant.
