Apple has launched a new iOS games app that offers enhanced social features, game leaderboards, and consolidation of existing features. The app’s “Play Together” tab provides a quick look at what friends are playing on iOS, while also introducing a new Challenges feature for single-player games.
This feature enables developers to turn their games into score-based competitions between friends, adding a new layer of social interaction. The game leaderboards will now be integrated with this new feature, allowing users to compete with each other in a more engaging way.
The app’s Home tab features game updates, time-sensitive in-game events, and recommendations for new games. A Library tab displays all downloaded iOS games in one place, while the Apple Arcade tab shows subscribers what’s available to download.
The new Games app will be navigable via controller, making it accessible on both portrait and landscape modes.
