Apple has made changes to its Notification Summaries feature in iOS 18.3, following complaints about inaccuracies and false headlines. The feature, which groups multiple notifications from the same app into a single summary, has been temporarily disabled for news apps due to issues with summarizing news stories.
The updates include italicizing summaries to distinguish them from traditional notifications and adding an option to turn off summaries directly from the Lock Screen. Apple is working on improving the feature, with future software updates expected to clarify when notifications are summarized by AI.
Users can still manage notification summaries for other types of apps, including disabling them entirely in the Settings app. The changes come after several complaints, including from BBC News, which highlighted issues with inaccurate summaries and false information being provided to readers.
