Apple’s futuristic Vision Pro headset turned one year old, but many expected more features by now. The latest update, VisionOS 2.4, addresses some missing features, including Apple Intelligence and a remote-viewing Guest Mode. However, it falls short in other areas, such as Visual Intelligence.
The new OS update includes familiar AI tools like text and image editing, message summarization, and chatbot assistance. These features were overdue and expected last year’s update. Unfortunately, there’s no Visual Intelligence or new Siri feature, which is a major disappointment.
On the positive side, Apple has introduced a Vision Pro phone app that allows remote app downloads, app discovery, and prescription lens inserts. A new Guest Mode experience also enables sharing the headset with others, allowing them to observe and interact remotely. Additionally, there’s a 3D video app called Spatial Gallery, which showcases curated 3D photos and videos.
While these updates show Apple is making progress, it raises questions about the company’s commitment to delivering comprehensive features on its hardware. The lack of Visual Intelligence and new Siri feature is particularly notable, given Google’s Gemini AI integration with Android XR.
Apple has indicated that VisionOS 3 may include Visual Intelligence, scheduled for WWDC in June. However, for now, these updates are a step in the right direction towards improving the Vision Pro’s functionality.
