A year ago, I was one of the first in line for an Apple Vision Pro demo at the New Orleans Apple Store. As the launch day approached, I realized that many people were still discovering its existence despite being unveiled eight months prior. Since then, significant software updates have enhanced the device’s capabilities.
The new features are impressive, making ordinary photos come to life with added depth and extending the Mac display to twice the size of a 5K monitor. Apple Vision Pro has become the best personal and portable immersive movie theater on the planet.
However, as we hit the one-year mark, some concerns remain unaddressed. Where are the immersive sports replays that have appeared in recent weeks? When will there be an immersive film discussed solely for its cinematic merit, not because of its innovative format? The upcoming visionOS 3 update may address platform-specific issues, but existing shortcomings still need to be resolved.
The $3500 price tag shields Apple Vision Pro from harsher scrutiny, but if the company wants to continue down this path, more solutions are needed before a more affordable version is released.
