Apple is reportedly working on a new version of its Watch that includes a camera, but the development process has been slowed down by the company’s struggles with artificial intelligence (AI). According to Bloomberg News, the camera would allow the watch to see the outside world and use AI to provide relevant information.
The new Apple Watch models, both the standard Series and Ultra, are expected to feature different camera setups. The Series model would have a camera inside the display, similar to an iPhone’s front-facing lens, while the Ultra version would have a camera at the side of the watch near the crown and button. This design difference affects how users can use the cameras.
Meanwhile, Apple is facing challenges in catching up with its rivals on the AI front. Amazon’s Alexa, Google’s Gemini for Android devices, and Samsung’s Galaxy AI are ahead in integrating advanced AI features. The company has delayed upgrades to its Siri AI assistant until this year, after initially promising those enhancements for 2025.
The delay is attributed to Apple’s fear of not being perfect, according to Luc Julia, a Siri co-designer. “They are falling behind because of this fear of not being perfect,” Julia said. The company has also removed the head of Siri operations, John Giannandrea, and replaced him with Vision Pro creator Mike Rockwell.
In other news, 9fin has acquired Bond Radar, deepening its data coverage and strengthening its AI-powered analytics platform for debt capital markets. The acquisition will provide 9fin with valuable historical transaction data and broad market reach, solidifying its position as the one-stop shop for debt market professionals.
