Apple Watch Loses Market Lead as Huawei Takes Top Spot

Apple’s market lead has slipped as the company witnessed a 12.8% decline in global sales of its watches, falling to 22.5 million units in the third quarter of 2024. The latest data from IDC shows that Apple is lagging behind Huawei, which increased its sales by 44.3% to 23.6 million watches.

Huawei’s success can be attributed to innovative models like the Watch D2, which features medically certified blood pressure measurement. The Chinese market, now the largest in the world, also played a significant role in Huawei’s growth, with 45.8 million units sold.

Xiaomi and Samsung also achieved double-digit percentage growth, with Xiaomi selling 20.5 million units and Samsung selling 11.5 million units. Despite its decline, Apple remains ahead in terms of sales, but the market leader position has shifted to Huawei. The company’s broader product portfolio is credited for Samsung’s success.
