Apple has been awarded a patent by the US Patent Office that covers all-glass embodiments for its Watch, Mac, and iPhone devices. The patented technology allows for displays on both the front and back sides of these electronic devices.
According to Apple’s patent application, conventional glass devices have limited use with only transparent glass used for touchscreens on the front of the device. In contrast, the new all-glass designs would allow for full-body transparency and visually seamless enclosures.
The patented technology enables multiple display regions across different parts of the device, making it possible to create interactive surfaces on the sides and back of devices. This can facilitate various functions such as displaying additional content or transforming touch-sensitive areas into input interfaces.
One example from Apple’s patent application shows an iPhone with a dual-sided display that adapts its interface according to the user’s orientation or location. The device also demonstrates potential for deformable sides, allowing users to adjust volume levels by squeezing or pressing on the glass surface.
