Apple is revamping its first-generation Vision Pro headset to address major pain points with the device. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a lighter and cheaper version of the headset is in the works, which will prioritize enterprise applications where wireless latency concerns are significant.
The new design will utilize a wired connection for ultra-low latency, making it suitable for applications such as surgery or flight simulators. The updated headset will continue to use pass-through technology with transparent lenses. Gurman notes that the current Vision Pro weighs nearly 1.5 pounds and can cause neck/head strain, while also being seven times more expensive than Meta Quest 3.
Additionally, Apple is working on a second headset aimed at reducing latency concerns in real-world applications. While details on this project are scarce, it’s clear that Tim Cook’s vision of augmented reality (AR) glasses is moving forward. The “lighter and cheaper” refresh aims to address the high price point and weight issues with the current Vision Pro model.
By working on these updates, Apple takes another step towards making its AR technology more accessible and user-friendly for a wider audience.
