Apple’s AI-Powered Smart Thermostat Feature Spotted in iOS 26 Code

Apple has been working on home energy solutions for users, and a new feature has been discovered in the latest iOS 26 code that uses AI to adjust your smart thermostat. The Adaptive Temperature tool, as it’s known, uses location and predicted location data to set different temperatures based on whether you’re away or at home.

The feature is similar to Apple Watch’s Workout Buddy, which uses AI to monitor fitness activity. This new feature could automatically adjust the thermostat in your home to one temperature while you’re away and another when you’re home. There are also references to additional settings for nighttime, allowing users to customize their temperature even further.

What sets this feature apart is its use of Apple Intelligence, predicting when someone will arrive home based on travel patterns or schedules. This information can be used to adjust the thermostat accordingly. The code also mentions being able to reduce electricity usage by adjusting the thermostat proactively, taking into account your energy provider and location.

This is not the first energy feature from Apple. The company has added clean energy monitoring in the Home app with iOS 17, allowing users to track their energy usage and plan high-energy activities during green hours. Grid Forecast expanded this feature in iOS 18, but its support was limited due to few providers participating. The new EnergyKit framework, made available for developers, will allow users to tap into Home data to optimize energy usage.

The exact release date of the Adaptive Temperature feature is unclear, as Apple has not announced it publicly. However, with iOS 26’s release in June 2025, it’s possible that this feature will be rolled out soon, potentially along with other smart home features announced at WWDC.
