Apple has been working on its first foldable iPhone, expected to launch in fall 2026. According to leaks, this device will have a unique size – a 5.25-inch external screen when closed, making it the smallest iPhone since the iPhone 13 mini. However, when folded out, the internal display is expected to be 7.58 inches diagonally.
The concept of a book-style foldable offers benefits like a smaller phone and a larger tablet device. Apple’s design choices will play a crucial role in determining its success. One concern is whether the foldable iPhone will be thin enough to maintain compactness, especially compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, which feels slim.
The leak also revealed details about the cameras, including twin 48-megapixel sensors on the rear and potentially a hole-punch camera on the external screen. The interior folding screen might have an “invisible” camera, similar to those used in Samsung’s Z Fold series.
However, Apple will need to balance design compromises with pricing. Estimates suggest the foldable iPhone could start at around $2,000 or more, which is higher than Samsung’s starting price for its Z Fold 7.
