Apple’s Latest Platform Updates: Hits and Misses

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference brought several significant updates across its platforms. In this article, we’ll highlight the best and worst features of each operating system.

macOS
The new macOS update has two notable features that stand out from the rest. Firstly, Spotlight enhancements offer a more intuitive search experience with better results. However, the disappearing menu bar is a step back for users who rely on it as an essential part of their workflow.

iOS
iOS 26 brings a welcome addition to the Messages app: spam filtering. This feature helps protect users from unwanted messages and interactions. On the other hand, tapbacks in CarPlay can be distracting while driving, making it difficult to pick the right emoji at the right moment.

iPadOS
The latest iPadOS update boasts improved multitasking capabilities with flexible windows that can be managed via Expose. Unfortunately, the new Games app feels like an ad, recommending games without giving users any real control over their gaming experience.

watchOS
WatchOS has introduced configurable widgets, allowing users to personalize their watch’s display. However, the Workout Buddy feature falls flat due to its overly enthusiastic tone, which fails to provide motivation for runners.

visionOS
The visionOS update features a cool ability to create persistent widgets on the Vision Pro display. Unfortunately, Image Playgrounds seems to have been a failed experiment.

tvOS
Despite being the least prioritized Apple platform, tvOS still manages to impress with its simplicity and user-friendliness. The only notable drawback is the annoying feature that forces you to listen to someone’s off-key rendition of “Africa” while using Apple Music on your iPhone.
