Israel’s attack on Hamas leaders in Doha has sparked widespread condemnation from Arab and Islamic states. The summit called for practical and decisive steps to address the “cowardly and treacherous” strike, which killed five Hamas members, including a son of its exiled Gaza chief.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would not rule out further strikes on Hamas leaders, despite US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s backing for Israel’s hardline stance. The US wants a diplomatic solution to the conflict, but Rubio stated that a peaceful resolution is unlikely and that Hamas must cease to exist as an armed element threatening regional peace.
The summit also called on countries to review their diplomatic and economic ties with Israel, in response to its “aggressive policies.” Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi warned that Israeli actions put obstacles in the way of future peace agreements.
Meanwhile, the war in Gaza continues, with at least 16 Palestinians killed in recent strikes. The conflict has resulted in over 64,000 Palestinian deaths and 1,200 Israeli casualties, according to various sources.
The Arab-Islamic leaders’ summit is seen as a response to Israel’s escalating military action in the region, which has sparked widespread outrage among Arab and Islamic states.
