Arab States Meet to Discuss Alternative to US Plan for Gaza

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has left Riyadh after an informal meeting on Friday with Gulf Arab states and Jordan to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The gathering, called by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aimed to find an alternative to US President Donald Trump’s plan to redevelop Gaza into a beach resort.

The proposal, which Egypt initially presented, includes up to $20 billion in funding over three years from wealthy Gulf states. However, major US allies like Saudi Arabia and the UAE have ruled out displacing Gaza Palestinians and emphasized the need for a Palestinian state coexisting with Israel.

Despite the meeting, there are no signs of Arab states making significant progress on a counter-plan. The talks followed President Sisi’s earlier statement rejecting the US plan due to national security concerns.
