Scientists have found that climate change has put the Arctic into an unprecedented state, with extreme conditions emerging on its surface and extensive ice melting. A recent study published in Communications Earth & Environment revealed that historical weather models are rapidly losing accuracy due to drastic changes in the region’s temperature. The researchers discovered areas 36 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than anticipated and record-low sea ice levels for three consecutive months. Further, a University of Hamburg study from 2020 predicts the Arctic will be completely ice-free by 2050. This new regime indicates a dire shift towards climate change.
