Ari Emanuel Joins Elon Musk in OpenAI Bid as CEO Threatens Sam Altman’s Stewardship

Ari Emanuel, Endeavor CEO, has joined Elon Musk’s consortium of investors in the $97.4 billion bid for control of OpenAI’s for-profit enterprise. In an interview, Emanuel criticized Sam Altman’s leadership, citing concerns over prioritizing ‘shiny objects’ over safety and a mass exodus of top executives. Emanuel claims that Altman is “double-dealing” by offering $30 billion to the nonprofit while pursuing a $97.4 billion deal with Musk.

The bid escalates a battle between Altman and Musk over OpenAI’s for-profit pivot, which has raised concerns about responsible AI development. Emanuel’s involvement may signal plans to encourage adoption of AI tools across Hollywood after unveiling Sora, capable of creating hyperrealist videos with minimal prompts.

Altman had characterized Musk’s surprise bid as an attempt to undermine competition, while Musk accused Altman of being “phony” and trying to cheat the charity. The consortium is not proposing to buy the nonprofit OpenAI but rather its majority share of the for-profit enterprise.
