Arkane Studios Founder Criticizes Game Pass Model

Arkane Studios founder Raphael Colantonio has expressed concerns about Microsoft’s focus on Xbox Game Pass, warning that it could be detrimental to the gaming industry in the long run. In a recent post on X, Colantonio stated that Game Pass is an “unsustainable model” that has been damaging the industry for over a decade.

Colantonio points out that Game Pass is subsidized by Microsoft’s vast resources, which will eventually lead to its downfall. He believes that the service cannot coexist with other models and will ultimately “kill everyone else or give up.” The former Arkane Studios developer also noted that while Game Pass may be appealing to gamers at first, it will eventually become unpopular as the effects on games are realized.

Colantonio’s comments come as Microsoft continues to invest heavily in its game subscription service. With the rise of streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, some have drawn parallels between Game Pass and these platforms. However, Colantonio is not alone in his concerns, and the issue remains a topic of debate among industry professionals.
