Arlington Man Killed in Shooting Outside Apartment Complex

A man has been killed in a shooting outside an apartment complex in Arlington on Monday evening. The victim, 19-year-old Zacchaeus Selby-Mukum, was found with a gunshot wound in the parking lot and taken to the hospital where he died.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at around 5:50 p.m. and identified Selby-Mukum as the victim. A motive for the shooting is unclear, but witnesses reported hearing arguing before the gunshots were fired.

Selby-Mukum was previously injured in a 2021 incident involving another shooting at Mansfield-Timberview High School. However, police do not believe this latest shooting is related to that incident.

The Dallas Morning News previously reported that Selby-Mukum and his attacker, Timothy George Simpkins, were involved in a fight at the high school on October 6, 2021. Simpkins produced a handgun from his backpack and opened fire, injuring four people including a teacher and student. He was found guilty of attempted capital murder in 2023 and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Anyone with information about Monday’s shooting is urged to contact Detective Andrew VanTreeck at (817) 459-5691.
