An armed man was shot and killed by Secret Service agents after entering the secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago early Sunday morning. The man, identified as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin from North Carolina, was carrying a shotgun and a fuel canister when he was confronted inside the north gate.
President Trump was not at his resort in Florida at the time of the shooting. According to Sheriff Ric L. Bradshaw, who made the announcement, the man raised his shotgun after being told to drop the items by law enforcement. This led to officers opening fire and killing him.
At least two Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County officer were involved in the shooting. The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m., and investigators from the FBI, Secret Service, and sheriff’s office are investigating the cause of the confrontation.
The president has not commented on the shooting, but his social media posts suggested he congratulated the US men’s hockey team for winning the gold medal at the Olympics. Austin Martin graduated in 2023 and had a business called Fresh Sky Illustrations. He was reported missing by his mother earlier that day after being last heard from on Saturday evening.
