Army Beats Tulane in Frigid NCAA Championship Game

Army beat Tulane 35-14 in the American Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday. The Black Knights, five-point underdogs at home, completed a perfect nine-game run without a deficit. Quarterback Bryson Daily ran for four touchdowns, including three on the first four series, as Army dominated Tulane.

Daily never passed in the first half and was unstoppable, running all over Tulane’s defense that had previously shut out Navy 35-0. The Black Knights finished with 335 yards rushing, surpassing their FBS-leading average. Daily got a career-high 158 yards from running back Kanye Udoh and converted four of five fourth-down attempts.

Tulane struggled on offense and defense, with receiver Dontae Fleming being hit hard by Army defenders at the end of a completion. The Wave’s last chance to get closer ended in familiar fashion for this debacle. Coach Willie Fritz left for Houston after a similar loss last year, but it remains unclear if Jon Sesser will follow suit.

Army coach Jeff Monken praised his team’s performance, saying they “made some adjustments” that led to the win. The Black Knights advanced to the bowl game without any issues, while Tulane will face an uncertain future under new head coach Sam Howell.
